Skoda and Volkswagen India have ramped up the production at their plant at Chakan near Pune, Maharashtra. The aim is to cater to the resizing demand for Skoda Volkswagen group cars in the country. Besides this, the brand has also started the third shift at the Pune facility.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India manages the Indian operations of a total of five Volkswagen Group brands namely Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Currently, the Pune facility manufactures Volkswagen Taigun & Virtus and Skoda Slavia & Kushaq. Until now, the brand was producing VW Polo and Vento. Besides serving the domestic market, the company is gearing up production for export markets. It has already begun exports of Volkswagen T-Cross to Mexico. While the export of other India 2.0 cars will begin in the coming months.
“This is a testimony to the overwhelming response received by the cars launched under the VW Group’s India 2.0 project. With the third shift, we have taken on additional manpower to help us cater to the increase in demand that we foresee both on the domestic and export front,” as commented by Piyush Arora, Managing director of SAVWIPL.
Apart from this, the Pune facility also houses an engine shop along with engine machinery and assembly that further produces 1.0L TSI and 1.5L TSI engines specifically for the Indian market. The Skoda Auto Volkswagen India group also has a manufacturing facility in Shendra, Aurangabad.
Moving on, the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India group is all set to launch the Volkswagen Virtus sedan in the country on June 9. The company also plans to accelerate the deliveries of the Slavia.
